Spring is officially here, and there’s no better time to capture your family’s love and joy in a beautiful outdoor location in Wichita. As the flowers start to bloom and the golden sunshine filters through the trees, the city comes alive with breathtaking backdrops perfect for your family photos. 1. Botanica, The Wichita Gardens
Botanica is a dream come true for family photography. With over 17 acres of lush gardens, vibrant flowers, and charming pathways, this location offers a variety of stunning backdrops. It really is one of the BEST outdoor locations for pictures in Wichita. Springtime brings out the most beautiful colors, making it the perfect time to schedule your session. Each year in April, Botanica features a gorgeous tulip festival, so if you want your pictures to include the tulips, you’ll want to book a week-day session to avoid the crowds.
The children’s garden is a fantastic spot to let little ones explore while capturing candid, joy-filled moments. I also love their gorgeous greenhouse just outside of their main building for a unique, weather-proof location for pictures. So even if the Kansas spring weather tries to steal the show, we can pop into the greenhouse and capture your beautiful portraits.
All you have to do is show the front desk your membership, or pay the general admissions fee for your family to enter and we’ll be all set to capture your love-filled memories in the gardens!
2. Chisolm Creek Park | East Wichita, Kansas
Chisolm Creek Park and The Grain Plains Nature Center are located in the same spot, just off of 29th and Woodlawn. This is a gorgeous spot for outdoor family photography sessions any time of year! The spring and summer are full of green grass and beautiful flowers. Fall is colorful and vibrant as the leaves change colors, and even winter is perfect here, with the snow and deep evergreen trees as shown above.
For families who love the beauty of Kansas’ natural landscapes, this really is an incredible location. With its winding trails, tall grasses, and peaceful ponds, this spot creates a rustic and organic feel for family photos. It’s a fantastic choice for nature-loving families who want to embrace the great outdoors in their portraits. Your session will be more than just pictures here, but truly an escape from the hustle of your day-to-day life. You may even forget that you’re right in the middle of Wichita while exploring the beautiful trails. This location is sure to be a true memory-maker for your family photo session.
3. Oak Park | Riverside, Wichita, Kansas
Nestled in the heart of Riverside, Oak Park is a hidden gem filled with towering trees, winding paths, and a quiet, secluded feel. Oak Park is one of my favorite spots for pictures in Riverside! There are multiple areas to explore within a very short walking distance, providing a great variety of natural backdrops for your photo session.
In the spring, the budding trees and soft greenery create a truly dreamy backdrop for family portraits. Whether you’re looking for classic posed shots or candid moments of your family playing together in nature (or a little bit of both!), Oak Park provides a relaxed and scenic location. From the gorgeous ponds to brick roads and beautiful limestone bridges, this spot is a perfect choice for your session. We will have to watch out for the side of the park with a disc golf course — but there’s still plenty of room for us all! I want your pictures to be memory-makers, and I know you’ll love this spot.
4. Old Town | Central Wichita
Old Town likely isn’t the first spot to come to mind when you think of where to schedule your spring pictures…but I absolutely LOVE it! It gives off a unique urban vibe AND features gorgeous potted and hanging flowers to brighten up the scene. Explore Downtown Wichita, and let me tag along to capture some lifestyle family pictures that you’ll love. It’s so fun to capture the things that you love to do, and this might be the best spot to fit your unique story.
The unique architecture, limestone buildings, and brick roads make this a wonderful spot to document your story.
5. Pretty Kansas Farm | Clearwater, KS
If you’re looking for a location that offers a mix of bright, beautiful flowers mixed with rustic charm, the multiple Greenhouses at Pretty Kansas Farm is the spot for you! This location is truly a dream come true when it comes to unique, gorgeous springtime photos and we’ll be able to capture such stunning images of you and your family here. It is a 30 minute drive from Wichita but it’s worth it! You may even get to spot some new baby donkeys out on the farm…your kids are going to love it! Plus, the golden hour light here is pure magic!
